Glasgow retrofit projects

Cathcart Road, Pre-1919 Tenement Retrofit Trialling EAHP’s

On site works to structurally repair and install fabric energy efficiency measures in 4 pre-1919 tenement closes (24 units) for social rent that are currently vacant, and to test exhaust air heat pumps and renewable energy generation via solar PV with battery storage. Est. works completion March ’25. Monitoring will be carried out for 1 year post completion by University of Strathclyde. Govanhill Housing Association & Coltart Earley Architects.

Old Shettleston Road, Pre-1919 Tenement Retrofit Feasibility Study

A PHPP modelled feasibility study to test the viability of deep retrofitting a pre-1919 tenement block (39 units) for social rent with residents in-situ at no financial detriment to tenants.  Three packages of works specified: external, internal with residents in situ and internal when property void. The final report (Dec ‘23) concluded both the cost (£100k p.u) and logistics of undertaking the deep retrofit was prohibitive.  Phase 2 (2024/25) will sequence retrofit measures with scheduled maintenance and repair. Impacts are being monitored by the University of Glasgow. Shettleston Housing Association & ECD Architects.

Old Shettleston Rd- Feasibility Study
We provide the connections, infrastructure and culture needed to solve the sector’s most pressing challenges. We bring together world-class academia, government bodies and industry at all levels to future-proof the commercial and environmental road forward for our sector.
East Dunbartonshire Council
Research by the Scottish Government suggested that 3,000 households in East Dunbartonshire are ‘fuel poor’.  Being ‘fuel poor’ means that a household has to spend more than 10% of its income on fuel in order to keep the home warm.
We are committed to reducing levels of fuel poverty in the area and aim to eliminate it entirely.
The Existing Homes Alliance is a coalition of housing, environmental, fuel poverty, consumer and industry organisations calling for urgent action to transform Scotland’s existing housing stock.

Host Partner, Glasgow Retrofit Summit 2025. To create jobs, improve the quality of housing, and deliver on our shared commitment to net zero carbon emissions we will develop a proposal to deliver a housing energy efficiency retrofit programme.

SUPPORTING ENERGY CONSCIOUS HOME IMPROVEMENT IN GLASGOW
We’ve built a novel community-based approach to home energy decarbonisation. We reduce the hassle of maintaining and improving homes. We’re a co-operative and welcome the involvement of householders, building professionals and local trades. while incorporating energy efficiency and decarbonisation measures.
At the heart of the University of Glasgow since 1807, The Hunterian connects people with stories, individuals and ideas. We are committed to becoming a more ethical institution which critically reflects on the past, is relevant in the present and contributes to a more equitable future for all.
Scottish Enterprise is Scotland's national economic development agency. We work to transform the Scottish economy by helping businesses innovate and scale. We're an outward-looking agency. We use our networks, insights and experience to deliver projects that help businesses take advantage of new market opportunities.
We exist to represent, support and connect our members. Housing associations and co-operatives provide affordable, quality homes and foster thriving communities by collaborating with partners and tenants.
With more than 1,400 colleagues working across the country in schools, careers centres and partner locations, we are passionate about skills development and its contribution to a modern, innovative and prosperous Scottish economy.
Retrofitting the UK’s housing stock to make it more energy efficient is an important factor in meeting the net zero emissions targets necessary for tackling climate change.  Academics at the University of Glasgow are working on a pilot initiative to retrofit a Glasgow tenement building. The project will provide lessons on how this could be expanded across the city’s housing stock.

Wheatley is a leading housing and property-management group in Scotland, managing over 95,868 homes and serving 210,000 people. It employs 2,700 staff directly and 2,000 more through a joint venture with City Building (Glasgow).

We’re Scotland’s circular economy public body, working with government, business, and communities to rewire the economy from our current “take, make, waste” model to one where we make the most of the materials we have.

A great event to attend. Met an awful lot of interesting people from a lot of different backgrounds, social housing providers, contractors, installers. It's particularly useful to see how different people can speak to each other about retrofit

Nice and compact…plenty of time to have a good chat with everyone - met some good people and you see the highlights. The workshops were very interesting which led to making some good relationships with architects and different builders and stuff that's going to be a good working relationship going forward

My main takeaway today was meeting the guys on the CITB training stall - that was absolutely outstanding

I think strengthening the kind of network of contacts and the retrofit industry in the Northwest was the most important thing for us. Meeting contractors and people who are interested in pushing retrofit forward, whether that be social housing providers, whether that be community groups, that sort of thing - looking at how it can be done at scale
